About Me
My first career was as a modern dancer and choreographer. But it was my sister’s experience with mental illness that inspired me to become a psychologist. I earned my master’s and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, D.C., and recently received a postgraduate certificate as a writing scholar at Harvard Medical School. I have more than 30 years of experience as a psychotherapist and am fully licensed in Virginia, New York, Vermont, New Zealand, and Ireland.
My clinical work with adolescents and adults includes the treatment of depression and anxiety and other mood disorders, trauma and grief, LGBTQ issues, and Asperger’s syndrome, among other issues. I am available for individual and couples therapy.
My specialties include the treatment of anxiety disorders. These include generalized anxiety, specific phobias and social phobias, panic disorder with and without agoraphobia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I utilize an integrative treatment model, which incorporates psychodynamic, experiential, behavioral, and cognitive-behavioral models. Sessions help patients identify, explore, and reconcile some of the underlying factors and root causes of their anxiety and skills to manage everyday symptoms.
I offer comprehensive pre-surgical psychological evaluations for bariatric and transplant surgeries, and evaluations for transgender teens and adults seeking gender-affirming healthcare.
I have volunteered with the American Red Cross as a disaster mental health first responder, serving at the Pentagon on 9/11, and for eight years served as an adjunct professor in the master’s and doctoral-level clinical and master’s level counseling programs at the American School of Professional Psychology.
